Description
This Drum is believed to have been at the Battle of Isandlwana 22nd January 1879 was the first major encounter in the Anglo-Zulu between the British Empire and the Zulu Kingdom-a force of 20,000 Zulus attack the main British Column consisting of 1,800 British Colonial and native troops with around 400 civilians, the battle was a decisive victory for the Zulu,s.
The story from the people i purchase the Drum off was a relative brought it back with him from the Zulu Wars , the brass container which it came in was from the catering corp it also came with a glass bead belt? with animal hair tassels ,the brass container appears to be some sort of colander use in cooking it looks as hes use this to transport it back to the UK so not to damage the drum which is in very good condition for its age .From what i can see the drum has never been remove from the brass container untill i hung it up side down and hit it with rubber mallet several times untill it drop out with all the old dirt/dust that had gather up over the years . A very nice and interesting item worthy of further research , can been seen in the shop now.Size (16 inches dia x 21 inches high)
